Imagine saving a life!

The Piedmont Blood Center (PBC) is an independent, volunteer supported, non-profit regional resource providing blood products and community service of high quality and value.

Imagine benefitting your own life!

Blood is used to save the lives of patients with cancer, trauma, hemophilia, and other serious diseases such as sickle cell anemia and kidney disease.

Last year (2007), the Piedmont Blood Center collected 22,000 units of blood from volunteer blood donors.  In order to meet the needs of the hospitals in our serving area, the PBC needs to collect approximately 25,200 units per year or 75 units every day.

Too much of a good thing is not necessarily good for your health.  Too many red cells and too much iron in the blood can result in damage to your vital organs.

You burn about 650 calories by donating one pint of blood.  That’s a 40-minute run at 7 m.p.h., or better yet, a one-hour bike ride!

Blood donors can donate as frequently as every 56 days. A benefit from regular blood donation is that you receive a mini-physical, including important blood screening tests, every time you donate.

You will get free juice and cookies.

Statistics show that 25 percent or more of us will require blood at least once in our lifetime.
